Thank you "Pappy" Boyington
Paradosis blog has an excellent commentary going about an issue that has come up at the University of Washington. It seems that the student senate there has rejected a memorial for alumnus Gregory "Pappy" Boyington of the famed WWII "Black Sheep Squadron". The senate is concerned that a military hero who shot down enemy planes was not the right kind of person to represent the school. Student senator Jill Edwards said she "didn't believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person the University of Washington wanted to produce." Ashley Miller, another senator, argued "many monuments at the University of Washington already commemorate rich white men." Who do these elitist snot nosed brats think they are? For one thing, this man Gregory Boyington was not rich. He sacrificed much for this country and his memory does not deserve to be cast in this way. Jill Edwards and Ashley Miller in my mind represent what has gone very wrong with this country. Their attempts to revise history are simply appauling and the Staff at the University of Washington should step in here and make this right.
